SPL Meter for iPad

A piece of equipment as hefty and reliable as this one is expensive to own, unless you are lucky enough to have an iPad!

The team from Studio Six Digital, the makers of SPL Meter and RTA for iPhone, as well as AudioTools, now brings you SPL Meter for iPad.

With the same finely-honed audio dsp engine used in our other great audio tools, but now with HD graphics for iPad. All the most-needed features, including A and C weighting, Fast and Slow ANSI decay modes, and 12 gain stages from 30 to 140 dB SPL.

Use the built-in mic for a quick measurement. Other audio options will be available soon, that will make this meter far more useful.

We have adjusted the calibration for a typical iPad, but if you have access to an SPL calibrator, or a calibrated Sound Level Meter, adjust the trim in SPL Meter for iPad for more accurate results.

As always, all filters are written to ANSI type 1 or better specs, for the most accurate results. Also, the meter ballistics faithfully follow those of a real analog meter.

Put an SPL Meter on your iPad today!

Replaces My Radio Shack SPL Meter

Over time, I have used a Radio Shack SPL meter to tune up and adjust my home theater speaker levels.

While the Radio Shack meter has done the job, it's always been a bit of a pain to have to get it out of the cabinet when I want to tune up my system. Since my iPad is usually nearby, the idea of having an SPL as an app was an attractive idea, so I downloaded the SPL Meter for iPad.

The interface is well done. Holding the iPad in the portrait mode gives the iPad a full sized meter (the app also works in landscape mode.) For anyone who has used an SPL meter previously, everything on the meter will be immediately familiar. And the app really does work and does so accurately.

It would have been a plus if the developer had included a user guide with the app aimed at the new SPL users. It would help those who don't know the proper settings and use with the information that they need to use the app. But other than that, for $2 you get an app that pays for itself after one or two 9 volt batteries die in the Radio Shack SPL meter.
